Visit FileForums i hope this helps someone out there having the issue i had. im using arch linux manjaro using steams proton 1.7 (modified Wine) anyone else had this issue? any fixes, help appreciated i found a simple fix watch the vid and download the 1.7 executable file in the comments the link attached to the vid is - download the 1.7 version executable file and replace the one in your cod 4 installation directory for the one you downloaded i did this and it showed 1.7 i refreshed server list and over 1k servers appeared, i clicked one and it attempted to download something went black screen a couple times then eventually auto loaded back up in to cod4 multiplayer home screen with message appearing advising me "the server you are attempting to join requires a cod4x patch up date which is a community made patch update do you want to download and install patch update" or something along them lines i clicked it and it closes cod application and installs patch then advised me to re open cod4 multiplayer, i reopened it with new version in the bottom right will say 20.1 cod4x and you can join loads of servers that's what worked for me anyway.
